Birdwatch: privacy
I, coenttb, am responsible for the data below. Stripe is responsible for what it collects to sell you Birdwatch, under its policy. This website and email to me are covered by coenttb.com’s notice.
What leaves your Mac
What Birdwatch reads and explains, such as your processes and agent sessions, never does. Only this:
- Update check, daily: your IP address and Birdwatch’s version, to offer updates (my legitimate interest). I keep a daily count; Heroku’s log keeps the IP address at most a week.
- Your email address and purchase, from Stripe, to email your license (our contract; without an address there is no license). My server keeps nothing. When you buy Birdwatch from its page, your purchase records the link that brought you there (such as ?ref=swift-forums), and Stripe keeps it with your order.
- Crash and freeze reports, if you choose: what went wrong in Birdwatch, its version, your Mac model and macOS version. To fix Birdwatch (your consent, which you can take back in Settings › Reports). Deleted after 90 days. Your IP address is used, in memory only, against abuse.
Who handles it for me
All four may reach the data from the US; each link is its safeguard.
- Heroku (Salesforce) runs coenttb.com in Dublin: Binding Corporate Rules, Data Privacy Framework.
- Mailgun sends license emails and reports from the EU: standard contractual clauses.
- Stripe keeps your purchase: Data Privacy Framework.
- Apple keeps reports in my iCloud Mail, in Ireland: standard contractual clauses.
